Smart Driver is a feature of the My Buick app which uses gamification to incentivize safe driving.

Role in Project: UX Designer (Contract)
Objective: Design an engaging app extension that leveraged gamification to help drivers to improve their safe driving skills.

The Smart Driver extension consists of few screens and its power lies in its simplicity. Meant primarily as an education tool, the limited screen states focus heavily on reviewing a driver’s habits after a trip has been completed.
On the home screen, users can see their current points and the number of points they still needed to reach their next reward. From here users can swipe up to select a new challenge or review the progress on their current challenge.
Smart Driver would be nothing without its many challenges. Each one is designed to teach drivers about how small driving changes affect the safety, cost, and environmental impact of each trip. Challenges offer real-world rewards such as free in-car wi-fi or discounts on insurance. These tangible benefits keep users engaged.
After each trip, users have the ability to review a detailed breakdown of their scores. From here, users can also navigate to the glossary where they’ll get a detailed overview of each point category, learn about its driving impacts, and why that category matters.
